The Airport Railroad Express, usually called AREX, opened in phases: from Gimpo Airport to Incheon Airport in March 2007, then to Seoul Station in December 2010. It is the only rail line linking downtown Seoul with Incheon International Airport and runs two services, a nonstop express and an all-stop local. HelloSubway types the all-stop route, 14 stations.
The stations
From Seoul Station the all-stop train calls at Gongdeok, Hongik University, Digital Media City, Magongnaru, Gimpo International Airport, Gyeyang, Geomam, Cheongna International City, Yeongjong, Unseo, Airport Cargo Terminal, Incheon Airport Terminal 1 and Incheon Airport Terminal 2. The first six are transfers to the Seoul network, so if you are heading to the airport from Hongdae, Gongdeok or Gimpo you can join it there.
Express or all-stop
The non-stop express train takes about 43 minutes from Seoul Station to Incheon Airport Terminal 1. The all-stop commuter train takes longer, 53 minutes by one count and closer to an hour by another, but it is the one that stops at the stations in this guide, and it costs less.
