Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station: the 6 train's last stop, and the ghost station that closed in 1945

The southern end of the 6 train, under the Municipal Building. One station south of it lay the City Hall loop, closed on 31 December 1945 and later built again, as a set, for a Spider-Man film.

Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall is on the 4, 5 and 6 trains in the game; in real life the J and Z call here too. The 6 train ends here: it is the southern terminal for all 6 trains. The station sits under the Manhattan Municipal Building, and the article mentions access around City Hall Park and on Centre Street, and an overpass built in 1959 to 1963 for more direct access to the Municipal Building.

The station that closed

South of here was the City Hall station, on a curved balloon loop. It closed on 31 December 1945, because its platform was short, few people used it and the busier Brooklyn Bridge station was next door. After that, Brooklyn Bridge became the southernmost station for local services, which is why the 6 train turns round here. The old station is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Spider-Man's version

For The Amazing Spider-Man 2 the crew built a subway station in about six weeks. Its skylights and Art Deco columns most closely resembled the City Hall station that closed in 1945. More on the real thing is in the closed platforms between the stations you type.

What is near

New York City Hall has been the seat of the city's government since 1812, which makes it the oldest city hall in the United States still used for its original purpose. The Tweed Courthouse, built between 1861 and 1881, became infamous as a symbol of corruption after its construction costs were inflated under the Tammany Hall political machine.

Typing it

The game spells the station Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall. It appears on the 6 train as the last stop.

Checked against the English Wikipedia articles for the station and the sights on 7 October 2026. The film detail comes from a production report on The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Stations are rebuilt and exits close for works, so follow the signs in the station as well.
