The Hammersmith & City line comes from a Metropolitan Railway branch that opened between Paddington and Hammersmith in 1864. For more than a century it ran as part of the Metropolitan and Circle lines rather than as a line of its own. It got its own pink colour on the map only in 1990, and was shown as a fully separate line on the diagram in 2009.

In the game it runs from Hammersmith to Barking, and none of its stations is its alone: the western part is shared with the Circle, the middle with the Circle and Metropolitan, and the east with the District.
