The Jubilee line opened in May 1979 between Stanmore and Charing Cross and was named for Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee. The Jubilee Line Extension of 1999 sent everything south of Green Park on a new route through Westminster, Waterloo and London Bridge and out through the Docklands by way of Canary Wharf to Stratford, and the old branch to Charing Cross was closed.
