The International Express

The 7 is nicknamed the International Express because it passes through neighbourhoods of so many nationalities. On September 13, 2015 it was extended 1.5 miles from Times Square to a new station at 34th Street-Hudson Yards. Some trains run express between Mets-Willets Point and Queensboro Plaza, and after big events at Citi Field or the national tennis centre extra express service runs southbound only.

Transfers

In the game, four 7 stations are shared with other services: Queensboro Plaza (N, W), Court Square (E, F, G), Grand Central-42nd Street (4, 5, 6) and Times Square-42nd Street (1, 2, 3, N, Q, R, W).

Typing it

The 7 has long, two-part names, so it is heavy for its length: 445 keystrokes for 22 stations, about 20 per station, the highest average of the New York lines covered here. Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue is the longest at 31, then 90th Street-Elmhurst Avenue and 82nd Street-Jackson Heights at 27. 5th Avenue is the shortest at ten.
