The J starts at Jamaica Center in Queens and runs along the elevated BMT Jamaica Line through Woodhaven, Cypress Hills and Bushwick. It crosses the Williamsburg Bridge and runs down the BMT Nassau Street Line on the Lower East Side to Broad Street, which is why it is also called the Nassau Street Local. In rush hours it shares the line with the Z, and each skips a different set of stations.
