The R starts at Forest Hills-71st Avenue in Queens and runs on the local tracks of the Queens Boulevard Line, shared with the M. It goes through the 60th Street tunnel onto the local tracks of the BMT Broadway Line, crosses to Brooklyn through the Montague Street tunnel and runs down the Fourth Avenue Line local to Bay Ridge-95th Street. In service since 1920, it is the only line that stops at every station on both the Broadway and the Fourth Avenue Lines.
