Line 2 opened on December 13, 1900, between Porte Dauphine and Étoile, as part of the second wave of the Métro. It was extended to Anvers in 1902, to Rue de Bagnolet (today Alexandre Dumas) in January 1903, and reached Nation on April 2, 1903, completing its route in a wide arc across the north of the city.
