Line 3 opened on October 19, 1904, between Villiers and Père Lachaise. It reached Gambetta in January 1905, was pushed west to Pereire in 1910 and Porte de Champerret in 1911, and crossed into Levallois-Perret to Pont de Levallois - Bécon in 1937. In 1971 it was extended east from Gambetta to Gallieni, in the suburb of Bagnolet, and the old branch to Porte des Lilas became Line 3bis.
