Line 9 opened on November 8, 1922, between Trocadéro and Exelmans, and was extended step by step over the following years. It first reached the suburbs at Pont de Sèvres on February 3, 1934, and on October 14, 1937 it was extended east to Mairie de Montreuil. It crosses the 16th arrondissement, the Grands Boulevards and the eastern districts, from Boulogne-Billancourt to Montreuil.
