The Sinbundang Line opened on October 28, 2011 between Gangnam and Jeongja, and was extended to Gwanggyo in 2016 and to Sinsa in 2022. It was built as a privately financed, fully underground line, and every train runs express with unusually wide spacing between stations.
The stations
From Sinsa the line runs Nonhyeon, Sinnonhyeon, Gangnam, Yangjae, Yangjae Citizen's Forest, Cheonggyesan Entrance, Pangyo, Jeongja, Migeum, Dongcheon, Suji-gu Office, Seongbok, Sanghyeon, Gwanggyo Jungang and Gwanggyo. Seven of them are transfers: Sinsa, Nonhyeon, Sinnonhyeon, Gangnam, Yangjae, Jeongja and Migeum.
A driverless line
The Sinbundang Line runs without drivers, and when it opened it was the world’s fifth fully driverless subway and the second in South Korea. Gangnam to Jeongja, the first section, takes only 16 minutes, and the whole line from Sinsa to Gwanggyo takes about 42 minutes at speeds above 90 km/h. Every station except the southern end is underground.
