The Chiyoda Line opened on December 20, 1969 between Kita-Senju and Otemachi. It reached Kasumigaseki on March 20, 1971, and the section from Ayase to Kita-Senju opened on April 20 of the same year, with through service onto the JR Joban Local Line. It reached Yoyogi-koen in 1972 and Yoyogi-Uehara in 1978, adding through service onto the Odakyu Odawara Line.
