The Fukutoshin Line opened on June 14, 2008. It is the newest of Tokyo Metro's lines and the deepest, running on average 27 metres underground, and it is the only line that connects all three of Ikebukuro, Shinjuku and Shibuya. It shares its tracks with the Yurakucho Line between Wakoshi and Kotake-mukaihara, and since March 16, 2013 its trains have run through at Shibuya onto the Tokyu Toyoko Line and the Minatomirai Line.

Leaving Wakoshi, the Fukutoshin Line stops at Chikatetsu-narimasu, Chikatetsu-akatsuka, Heiwadai, Hikawadai, Kotake-mukaihara, Senkawa, Kanamecho, Ikebukuro, Zoshigaya, Nishi-waseda, Higashi-shinjuku, Shinjuku-sanchome, Kita-sando, Meiji-jingumae 'Harajuku' and Shibuya.
