The Hanzomon Line first opened on August 1, 1978 between Shibuya and Aoyama-itchome. It reached its full route of 14 stations, from Shibuya to Oshiage, on March 19, 2003, when the section from Suitengumae to Oshiage opened. Its trains run through onto the Tobu Skytree Line north of Oshiage and the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line south of Shibuya.

From Shibuya, the Hanzomon Line calls at Omote-sando, Aoyama-itchome, Nagatacho, Hanzomon, Kudanshita, Jimbocho, Otemachi, Mitsukoshimae, Suitengumae, Kiyosumi-shirakawa, Sumiyoshi, Kinshicho and Oshiage 'SKYTREE'.
