The Shinjuku Line is run by Toei. It first opened on December 21, 1978 between Iwamotocho and Higashi-ojima. The section from Shinjuku to Iwamotocho followed on March 16, 1980, and the line was pushed east to Funabori on December 23, 1983 and Shinozaki on September 14, 1986, before reaching Motoyawata in Chiba Prefecture on March 19, 1989. At Shinjuku its trains run through onto the Keio Line.
