Not a circle any more: since 2009 it runs from Hammersmith, round the centre and back out to Edgware Road. 35 stations, 443 keystrokes.

The Circle line was formed in 1884, when the Metropolitan and District railways completed the Inner Circle, the world's first circular underground line. It ran as a true loop for more than a century. In 2009 it was extended to Hammersmith, and since then it has the shape of a letter Q: trains start at Hammersmith, go all the way round the centre and finish at Edgware Road by way of Paddington.

Paddington and Edgware Road are passed twice on that route, but in the game you type each of them once.

The route

Starting at Hammersmith, the Circle line runs through Goldhawk Road, Shepherd's Bush Market, Wood Lane, Latimer Road, Ladbroke Grove, Westbourne Park, Royal Oak, Paddington, Edgware Road, Baker Street, Great Portland Street, Euston Square, King's Cross St Pancras, Farringdon, Barbican, Moorgate and Liverpool Street.

The rest of the route is Aldgate, Tower Hill, Monument, Cannon Street, Mansion House, Blackfriars, Temple, Embankment, Westminster, St. James's Park, Victoria, Sloane Square, South Kensington, Gloucester Road, High Street Kensington, Notting Hill Gate and Bayswater.

From Bayswater the train passes Paddington and Edgware Road for the second time, and the ride ends at Edgware Road.

Changing trains, and typing it

Every one of the 35 stations is shared with other lines in the game. The biggest are King's Cross St Pancras (Victoria, Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly, Hammersmith & City), Baker Street (Bakerloo, Metropolitan, Jubilee, Hammersmith & City), Hammersmith (District, Piccadilly, Hammersmith & City), Paddington (Bakerloo, District, Hammersmith & City), Edgware Road (Bakerloo, District, Hammersmith & City) and Moorgate (Metropolitan, Northern, Hammersmith & City). The whole line takes 443 keystrokes, about 12.7 per station. King's Cross St Pancras is the longest at 23, then Shepherd's Bush Market at 22, and Temple is the shortest at 6. Its history is told in how the Circle line became a loop, and the sights in the Circle line in photos. Ride the Circle line.
